The Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society Ltd.

The Railway is entirely operated by the volunteer members of the Colne Valley Railway Preservation Society, there are no paid staff. The volunteers are drawn from all walks of life and very few are professional railwaymen, the only thing they all have in common is the love of railways and conservation of our heritage. The staff operating the Railway on the day of your visit may well be librarians, engineers, carpenters, lorry drivers, bank managers, salesmen, nurses, or plumbers, but all have been trained to become qualified as Guards, Signalmen, Firemen and eventually Drivers. Retired or unemployed people are especially welcome as there are many midweek activities. Not only do the volunteers operate the Railway, but they also have to maintain and restore the collection of locomotives, coaches and wagons, along with the signalling equipment, track and station buildings. As you can see, anyone can become involved. Even if you can only give one day a month or one week a year, a job can be found for you and your family. All you need to do is become a member of the Society, for details please contact the Secretary, CVRPS, c/o Castle Hedingham Station, Yeldham Road, Castle Hedingham, Essex, CO9 3DZ or telephone 01787-461174.

Join us today to help with the challenge of preserving our heritage for future generations to enjoy.
