No.YD43
YD43
was the first diesel locomotive to arrive at the Colne Valley
Railway. It was built by Ruston and Hornsby in 1943 and was
delivered new to the Admiralty at Lydney in Gloucestershire. It
also worked at Lydney tin plate works, the Austin Motor Co. at
Crofton Hackett, Chatham dockyard and Wrabness Admiralty storage
depot before moving to Brown and Tawse Ltd., West Horndon, Essex,
in 1966. Brown and Tawse Ltd. kindly donated YD43 to the Colne
Valley Railway in 1979 and it was a veteran of many early track
laying operations.
